Davidson, N.C. - Western Carolina defeated Davidson 3-2 Sunday afternoon to improve to 11-12 and 9-5 in the Southern Conference. Western Carolina broke a 13-year losing streak on the road with Davidson, who was seeded first in the league. The last WCU victory was September 24, 1987.
Davidson took a commanding 10-4 lead in game one. The Cats ralled to tie the game at 12, but Davidson prevailed 15-12.
After being down 0-2 games, Western jumped out to a 5-0 lead and cruised to a 15-2 victory in game three. Davidson tied to gain back the momentum in the following game by grabbing a 12-8 lead. However, the Cats would not relinquish and took the final seven points of the game finishing off Davidson 15-12.
WCU then took an 8-3 lead in game five. Davidson rallied back to take a 13-9 lead, but the Cats dominated with a 15-13 victory.
Junior Christy Attebery led all players in kills with 27 while freshman Pamela Stein added 19 kills and Sara Komosinski and Crissi Harrison each added 14. Three Catamounts recorded double-doubles, Attebery also with 19 digs, Komosinski with 14 digs and junior Bri Milan-Williams with 77 assists and 10 digs.
