CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Western Carolina charged back to win three straight games and pulled out an emotional five-game volleyball victory over Chattanooga Wednesday night at Maclellan Gym.
UTC took the first two games handily 15-7, 15-11, but Western Carolina took control of the match after the intermission and won the last three games 15-4, 15-13, 16-14. Western's victory spoiled UTC's Senior Night front of the largest crowd of the season (307). It was the Lady Mocs' first home Southern Conference loss of the season in 10 games.
The Catamounts (17-12 overall and 12-5 in the Southern Conference) jumped to an 8-4 advantage in the deciding game and WCU had several shots at winning the match from a 14-11 lead. UTC (17-12, 13-5) crawled back into it behind Dutcher's serving and tied the match at 14-14. A kill by WCU's

Western Carolina was led by Christy Attebery, who had 29 digs and 20 kills. Sara Komosinski had 12 kills and 11 digs. Ashley Minton came up with 20 digs, nine kills and was in on nine blocks. Bri Milan-Williams had 18 digs, 59 assists and three aces.
The two teams combined for 198 digs in the defensive struggle. UTC's Kari Krouse led the way with 24 digs. She also had 15 kills. Jody Steinberger had a double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs and Lusetti had a double-double with 11 kills and a dozen digs. Dutcher came up with 16 digs and Reedus had 15 kills and four blocks.
The Lady Cats will next play at The Citadel, Saturday, November 11 at 6:00 pm followed by College of Charleston, Sunday, November 12 at 2:00 pm to close out the season.
