Final Stats

Johnson City, Tenn. - The Western Carolina volleyball team fell to East Tennessee State, 3-1 (30-23, 25-30, 32-30, 30-20) Monday night from Brooks Gym in Johnson City.

Western Carolina (12-8, 8-3 SoCon) took the advantage early in game one, opening up a 8-3 lead. The Buccaneers (14-2, 10-2) chipped away at the lead, taking an advantage of their own at 14-13. ETSU would hold the lead for the rest of the game, taking it 30-23.

The two teams traded points to begin game two, until the Bucs took a small 7-5 lead. Western Carolina gained the lead shortly thereafter at 11-10. The Catamounts would slowly build an advantage of their own, growing to as many as eight points at 22-14. The Catamounts took game two, 30-25.

Game three was the turning point of the match, as both teams would hold the lead and fight back from deficits. The teams again traded points to begin the game, until Western Carolina took a 8-6 lead. The Bucs would then score four consecutive points to take the lead 10-8. The Bucs would hold the lead until Western Carolina would tie the game at 25. The Catamounts would take the lead 29-28 and were serving for the game until ETSU took four of the next five points to win game three 32-30.

The Bucs were in control of game three, taking the lead early and cruising to victory. The Bucs took an 8-6 lead and never looked back, winning the final game 30-20.

Western Carolina was led by senior outside hitter Christy Attebery, who had a match-high 16 kills and a phenomenal 32 digs. Senior setter Bri-Milan Williams led the Catamounts with 37 assists and added 11 digs of her own.

Western Carolina hosts UNC Asheville on Wednesday at 7 p.m. from the Ramsey Center in Cullowhee, N.C.
