GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Western Carolina volleyball team defeated Furman, 3-1 in Southern Conference action Wednesday night.
The match's first three games were decided by a total of seven points, as the Cats topped Furman 33-31 and 30-27, before the Lady Paladins roared back for the 31-29 win in the third. WCU shut down the Paladins in game four however, hitting .457 to Furman's -.025 to take the 30-15 win and the match.
The Cats were paced by Christy Attebery's 20 kills and 18 digs, while Pamela Stein provided the majority of Western Carolina's net defense with five block solos and four block assists.
With the win, the Cats improve to 19-8 overall and 14-3 in the Southern Conference, while Furman falls to 13-10 and 9-8. The Lady Paladins will play at Davidson Friday night before hosting the Mocs of Chattanooga Sunday in the last home match of the year.
Western Carolina is back in action Saturday with a 6 p.m. home match against non-conference foe Elon.
