Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina volleyball shutout The Citadel in the teams final regular season match of the 2001 season Sunday afternoon.
The Citadel battled against Western Carolina making games one and two close. Western took the two games 30-24. The Cats took the Lady Bulldogs in game three handily, 30-13, to improve to a 21-10 overall record.
Western was led by sophomore Sara Komosinski with 17 kills and nine digs while recording a .519 hitting percentage (17-3-27). Sophomore Pamela Stein added 11 kills and senior Bri Milan-Williams tallied 28 assists and five service aces.
The Citadel was led by Nicole Mantu with eight kills and 13 digs. WCU put down 49 kills to The Citadel's 29.
The Catamounts finish the regular season with a 15-5 Southern Conference record. The teams 15-1 home record is the schools best since 1986 when the team was undefeated (9-0). The Citadel falls to 7-22 and 0-19 in the league.
Western Carolina travels to the Southern Conference Championship held in Greensboro, N.C., November 16-18. The Lady Cats will enter the tournament with a third place seeding. The Citadel will host Charleston Southern, November 13 at 7:00 pm for their final regular season match.
