Volleyball Breaks Records Despite Loss To Charleston

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina volleyball team recognized its two seniors, Christy Attebery and Bri Milan-Williams Saturday afternoon in the Ramsey Center. Despite falling 3-2 to the Southern Conference top ranked College of Charleston the pair had much to celebrate.

Attebery broke the Southern Conference kills record and Milan-Williams broke the WCU assists record as well as reaching the 1,000 career digs mark. Attebery led the team with 23 kills against Charleston, she now has a career total of 2,088. Milan-Williams tallied 65 assists in the match, a career total of 4,452 and 12 digs, a career total of 1,009. Attebery also recorded a double-double putting up 21 digs.

The first two games of the match were close with Charleston winning the first 30-24 and Western winning the second 30-27. Charleston jumped out early in game three and won by a decisive 30-19. The Catamounts came back in game four to win 30-25, however could not hang on to the momentum. The Lady Cougars took game five and the match, 15-9.

Western's Sara Komosinski and Pamela Stein also recorded double-doubles for the Catamounts. Komosinski put down 17 kills and added 18 digs while Stein recorded 11 kills and 15 digs.

Four Lady Cougars recorded double-doubles. They were led by Sara Davis with 18 kills and 15 digs. Setter Mary Sabatino tallied 66 assists and 12 digs. Stephanie Ballard put down 15 kills and totaled 13 digs while Tara Greene notched 15 kills and 15 digs.

Western falls to 20-10 overall and 14-5 in SoCon play while Charleston improves to 28-2 and 18-1. WCU will host The Citadel, Sunday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m. to round out the regular season.
