STATESBORO, Ga. - Western Carolina battled back to bring the game within 10, however, could not hold on in a 95-55 Southern Conference loss to Georgia Southern Monday night at Hanner Fieldhouse.

The win improves Georgia Southern to 18-6 overall and 12-3 in the conference. The Lady Catamounts fall to 10-14 overall and 4-11 in league play.

The Lady Eagles held a 44-30 lead at halftime after jumping out to a 12-2 run to start the game. The margin hovered around a 10-point spread for most of the first half, but when Alie Rousseau hit her second three-pointer with 4:38 remaining to give the hosts a 32-20 lead, the Eagles' advantage would not fall beneath double digits again.

GSU upped its lead to 20 at the 16:19 mark of the second half off a Lauren Langley three-pointer, increased it to 30 nearly 10 minutes later on an Amy Krach trey, and finally stretched it to 40 when Kristin Smithers capped a three-point play after being fouled on a layup.

Georgia Southern's Danna Simpson led all scorers with 20 points while also dishing out a team-high four assists. Sarah McCary added 10 points as did Krach off the bench. Tiffany Lanier scored seven for the winners while dishing out three assists and recording a team-high five steals. Western Carolina put only one player in double figure scoring, that being Laura Echols with 15.

The Lady Eagles out-rebounded the Lady Cats 42-35 and committed a season-low 14 turnovers. Western Carolina committed 25 turnovers.

Western Carolina will return home for the remainder of the season hosting East Tennessee State in a SoCon match-up Saturday, February 17. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
