Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina volleyball team remain undefeated as they rolled past Virginia Tech 3-0 to win the Catamount Clash II in the Ramsey Center Saturday night.
The Catamounts battled against the Hokies to take game one 30-22. WCU jumped out to a quick lead in game two never giving Virginia Tech a chance to control the game. The Hokies were held to six kills to the Cats 13 in game two. WCU took game two 30-12 and game three 30-20. The Cats improved their hitting percentage to .250 for the second and third games, an improvement from .114 in the first.
Freshman Stefanie Peters and sophomore Sara Komosinski led the team with nine kills apiece. Peters was named to the all-tournament team while setter Bri Milan-Williams was named tournament MVP. Milan-Williams recorded the teams only double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs.
Virginia Tech's Annie Spicer led the team in kills with eight and teammate Jess Quinn led in digs, also with eight.
In other tournament action Evansville defeated Virginia Tech 4-1 in today's first match (30-27, 30-27, 38-40, 30-23). Evansville was led by Samantha Butler with 19 kills and 25 digs. Cheryl Stinson led the Hokies with 14 kills, while Ana Lang led with 13 digs.
Western Carolina defeated Gardner-Webb 3-1 with scores of 30-17, 26-30, 30-18 and 30-22. Peters led the team in kills with 19 and recorded a double-double with 16 digs. Milan-Williams also recorded a double-double with 46 assists and 23 digs. Leading the Lady Bulldogs were Laura Murfee with 11 kills and Linette Ramseur with 15 digs.
Evansville shutout Gardner-Webb 3-0 (30-11, 30-25, 30-28) in today's third match action. Evansville was led by Jill Fenneman with 16 kills and Butler led the way in digs with 12. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Ramseur in digs with 11.
