Final Stats

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina volleyball team came back from being down 1-0 to start the match to take the next three in a 3-1 victory over Wofford Thursday night in the Ramsey Center. With the win, WCU is now 21-9 on the season and 12-5 in the league, while Wofford falls to 14-16, 5-12 in the SoCon.

Both teams battled back and forth in the first game, marking 12 ties and five lead changes. Then the Terriers took control as Jessica Johnson served five straight points to mark the game at 22-17 before a kill by WCU's Michelle Gorton gave the Cats a point and Shari Harder the serve. Western tied the game two more times, but an attack error by Harder and a kill by Wofford?s Katie Sobczyk secured game one for the Terriers, 30-28.

The Catamounts put together some solid hitting in game two to post a .333 hitting percentage, led by Stefanie Peters with five kills. Wofford could not get into an offensive rhythm as WCU put away the Terriers 30-15 in the second.

In the third, the two teams exchanged a few offensive runs before the Cats took charge, leading 17-11. Wofford brought it to within three points at 22-19, but that's as close as they would get as Western moved on to take game three 30-25 on a kill by Tricia Eble.

The Cats were determined to win the match in game four as they led by as many as 10 points at 23-13. Molly Bushong served up an ace for the Terriers to give them a point, but junior Sara Komosinski answered with a kill to reclaim the 10-point lead. WCU didn't look back after that as they took game four (30-16) and the match.

Western Carolina was led by Peters and Komosinski, both with a double-double: 18 kills, 12 digs and 17 kills, 11 digs, respectively. Komosinski added four blocks for the night to lead all players. Harder posted 51 assists in the match to surpass 1,100 for the season, adding 16 digs. Alex Arendell led the team with 17 digs.

Janna Webb led the Terriers with 13 kills, adding eight digs, while Katie Laser recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Lindsay Lyman led the team with 18 digs and setter Bushong posted 39 assists in the match.
