Catamount Volleyball Falls To College of Charleston, 3-1

CHARLESTON, SC- Stephanie Ballard recorded 17 kills and 11 digs as the College of Charleston (13-4, 6-0) downed Western Carolina (10-9, 3-3) three games to one in Southern Conference women's volleyball action. Charleston won with game scores of 30-21, 27-30, 30-13 and 30-15.

Rebecca Wieters added 14 kills and Sara Davis chipped in 13 kills to go along with 12 digs for the Cougars in the win. Marie Dobrenz, who is seventh in the nation in digs, recorded 24 digs in the four games. Kellyn Thaut led the way for the Catamounts with 17 kills and 22 digs.

The teams split the first two games. The Catamounts squared up the match with a 30-27 game win in the second. However, the Cougars came storming out of the locker room and won the first eight points of the third game including four aces by Kaycie Carr. The Cougars led 11-1 when Ballard slammed home the kill and the team won the third game 30-13. Charleston closed out the match with a 30-15 win including a Shawn Beckham kill to set up match point.

The Cougars, who are ranked eighth in the nation in digs, out-dug the Catamounts 85-72 and out-blocked Western Carolina 11-3.

The Catamounts stay in the Charleston area tomorrow and take on The Citadel at 2:00 PM.
