Signal Mountain, Tenn. - Sophomore golfer Blake Wray set a Western Carolina by carding a two-round total of 135 in the first day of competition at the Sonic/Chattanooga Intercollegiate. Wray had tied a WCU single-round round by firing a 67 in the first 18 holes, only to have teammate Tripp Morrow shatter the record in the second 18 holes by carding a 64. Their play helped Western shoot 289, the third-lowest one-round score in school history, and 282, the lowest one-round score in school history, for a two-round total of 571, the lowest two-round total in school history by nine strokes, to stand in seventh in the 14-team field.

Wray (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca HS) fired a 67 in the first 18 holes, which ties a WCU single-round record, and his 68 stands as the third-lowest single-round score. His two round total of 135, which is good for second in the event, is one stroke better than the previous school record of 135, set last fall by Clay Kilgore.

Morrow (Forest City, N.C./East Rutherford HS) stands in 11th after two rounds, shooting a 75 in the first round to go along with his 64 for a 139. The 139 is the third-lowest two-round score in WCU history.

Rounding out Western's scoring through 36 holes was Matt Flueckiger (45th, 147), Tim Eckberg (60th, 150) and Alex Arrigo (75th, 162).
