Greensboro, N.C. - The Western Carolina Catamounts upped their record to 15-14 overall and 7-8 in Southern Conference action with a three-game sweep (30-21, 30-23, 30-24) of the UNC Greensboro volleyball team (7-22, 3-13), Saturday afternoon, in Fleming Gymnasium.

The Spartans came out of the gates quickly, opening up a 4-1 lead following a kill from Lori Brooks. Western Carolina responded with a 3-0 run to knot the score at 4-4 on a kill by Kellyn Thaut. The two teams then traded points with UNCG taking the advantage at 12-11 on a blast from Abbi Meyer. A kill by Michelle Gordon gave the Catamounts the lead once again, 14-13. Trailing, 25-17, the Spartans rallied and reeled off four consecutive points to close the gap to 25-21, but it was not enough as the Catamounts managed to hang on for the game one victory.

After dropping game two, 30-23, the Spartans came through with another gritty effort in game three. The Catamounts opened the match with a 5-1 lead after a kill by Shari Harder. UNCG rallied and closed the gap to 13-11 following back-to-back kills by Lori Collins. A Heather Koontz kill ended the Spartan run and gave the Catamounts a 14-11 advantage en route to the victory.

Thaut paced the Catamount offense with a match-high 18 kills, adding 13 digs for the double-double. Sara Komosinski added 12 kills and 10 digs for a double-double as well. Harder led Western Carolina with 46 assists, while Ellie Talbot picked up a match-leading 15 digs.

LaJean Morrow led the Spartans with nine kills and eight digs. Collins chipped in with eight kills, while Rebekah Faulise, Stephanie Elbe and Abbi Meyer all recorded double-digit digs.
