WCU Baseball Sweeps Wright State With 6-1 Win in Game Two

Cullowhee, N.C. - Wright State jumped out early, but WCU senior Todd Buchanan blasted a pair of home runs to lead the Catamounts to a 6-1 win in the second game of Saturday dobleheader.

Chris Tuttle started game two with a walk, moved to second on a single by Trent Matthews and one to third ob Matt Barhorst's sac bunt. Cleanup hitter Bryan Vickers followed with an RBI ground out to give the Raiders an early 1-0 lead.

Western as held scoreless in the bottom of the first and Wright State looked to threaten in the second as Ryan Zenn ledoff with a double. However, Brad Josey retired the next three to escape. In the bottom half of the second Western would score at least one run over the five frames to get the win.

Buchanan started the second with a double and scored when Wayne Kilmer, who walked, was caught in a pickle while trying to steal. In the third, Brett Kasten started things by being hit by a pitch. After a sac bunt and advancing on a fly ball, Kastern would score on a Rod Goldston double.

In the fourth, Buchanan hit a leadoff homer to right, then Western extended its lead to 4-1 in the fifth. Todd Roper had a bunt single, went all the way to third on a Goldston sac bunt and scored on a passed ball.

Once again, Buchanan hit a leadoff homer in the sixth, giving him three for the season, to make the score 5-1. The Cats would cap the scoring as Brian Sigmon, who singled and moved to third on a Brandon McDowell double, scored on a throwing error.

Josey improved to 1-0 on the season for WCU, allowing three hits and one run in five complete innings. Brian Barnes and Ryan Foster did not allow a hit or a run as each struck out one in an inning's work to finish the Raiders. Aaron Braden (0-1) took the loss, pithcing the complete six innings allowing eight hits, six runs (four earned) and one walk.
