Final Stats

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina committed 26 attack errors en route to an .091 attack percentage while the visiting Coastal Carolina Chanticleers hit over .250 for the match resulting in a 3-0 (17-30, 23-30, 28-30) loss for the Catamounts.

Western (8-11) was led by freshman Melissa Parana's 11 kills and three solo blocks. She added a service ace in the losing effort. The Chanticleers (13-7) had a pair of players reach double figures in kills, paced by the double-double effort of junior Katherine Jensen. She finished with a match-high 15 kills and 15 digs helping to give Coastal its first win over the Catamounts in five tries.

The Catamounts fell behind early in each game before rallying late. However, as was the case three times, the early deficit was too much to overcome.

Sophomore Kellyn Thaut finished with nine kills and seven digs on the afternoon, while classmate setters Meghan Boyle and Kate Willard dished out 19 and 10 assists, respectively. Junior Ellie Talbot led the Catamounts defensively with 16 digs.

In addition to Jensen, sophomore Alicia Meyers tallied 14 kills while only committing one error for a .481 attack percentage for the Chanticleers. Junior Jennifer Hampton dished out 34 set assists while classmate Kali Banghart added ten digs defensively for Coastal in the win.

Western Carolina returns to action on Tuesday, October 19 as they travel to mountain-rival, UNC Asheville for a 7:00 pm match.
