Final Stats

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina Catamount volleyball team ran into a red-hot College of Charleston Cougar squad Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets, 3-0 (30-9, 30-12, 30-21) in Southern Conference volleyball action at the John Kresse Arena.

The win for Charleston (13-1, 5-0 SoCon) was its fifth-in-a-row this season, as well as its 23rd-straight in the SoCon. It also marked the 39th-consecutive home conference victory for the Cougars. Western was unable to capitalize on the momentum from the five-game victory over Chattanooga last Tuesday night, falling to 3-13 overall and dipping back below .500 in league play, 2-3.

The Catamounts were paced by senior Ellie Talbot's seven kills and 17 assists from sophomore setter Meghan Boyle. Talbot added a team-high 13 digs, with junior libero Kate Willard also reaching double-digits with 11. Sophomore Meredith Harmon killed five in the loss, adding three total blocks to tie classmate Danielle Spitzer for the team-high.

The Cougars were led by Amanda Timmers with 17 kills, while Marie Dobrenz added 24 digs. Overall, CofC out-hit the Cats, .345-to-.036. Kaycie Carr dished out 42 assists, while Tiffany Blum and Rebecca Wieters added 17 and 11 kills each, respectively.

Western concludes its two-match road trip to Charleston, S.C., on Sunday afternoon, visiting CofC's crosstown neighbor, The Citadel, at 2:00 pm. The Catamounts return home on Tuesday, Oct. 4 to host Furman in SoCon action in the Ramsey Center at 7:00 pm.
