DAVIDSON, N.C. - Katie Hennessey collected the fourth triple double of her career and the second in a week span in Western Carolina volleyball's (7-20, 2-10 SoCon) 3-1 (30-28, 21-30, 25-30, 20-30) loss to Davidson (8-16, 3-8 SoCon) Saturday. Hennessey ended the match with 11 kills, 12 digs and 38 assists.
Jelena Jakovljevic's 13 kills kept her streak alive as the freshman outside hitter has now notched double figure kills in her last four matches. In four match streak she has 61 kills and a .157 attack percentage.
Western Carolina won the first game of a match for the tenth time this season and it is just the third time the Catamounts have won the first game only to lose the match. It was a close game throughout and it seemed the game could go either way. The Catamounts clung to a 12-11 lead but a service error by WCU tied the game at 12 and the game was knotted again at 28 before Jakovljevic's kill and a Wildcat attack error gave Western Carolina the early 1-0 lead.
The Catamounts couldn't seem to recapture the early success they found in game one. After hitting .217 in game one, Western Carolina had attack percentages of just .069, .176 and .043 in the ensuing games. Meanwhile, Davidson increased their attack percentage and hit above .200 in the final three games.
Sophomore libero Liz Rondone had 20 kills in the match and has a total of 453 digs for the season. Her career mark improves to 1,223 and moves to fifth place in the Western Carolina record books for digs in a career.
Western Carolina returns home at 7 p.m. Wednesday to host Wofford in another Southern Conference match-up.
