The Western Carolina women's tennis team dropped its 2007 Southern Conference opener on Sunday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the No. 72 Davidson Wildcats at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
WCU (4-6, 0-1 SoCon) recorded its lone victory of the day at the No. 1 doubles position. Junior Trish Hanson and freshman Tessie Salame posted an 8-5 victory over the Wildcat tandem of Kelsey Linville and Kim Whelan.
However, Davidson (12-4, 3-0 SoCon), which won its fifth-straight match, only allowed the Catamounts to win 17 games overall and swept through five frames. WCU's Salame did manage to force a tie-breaker in the first set at No. 2
Western Carolina returns to action on Thursday, March 22, when it travels to Spartanburg, S.C., to face the Wofford Terriers in SoCon action.
