Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis put four individuals on the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team today, highlighted by the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of The Year,
Jade Groen, and including graduating senior
Angela Perez, as well as
Chloe Schwarz and
Madison Schwarz.
Groen additionally advances to Academic All-America team ballot for consideration for the national honor which will be announced on June 3, 2025.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Tennis Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
Groen rewrote the Catamount record books over the course of an outstanding 2025 campaign, tallying a single-season record 17 singles wins, including a 16-2 record as the No. 1 seed, and collecting the SoCon Player of the Year accolades, the first by a Catamount in program history. She was equally proficient in the classroom as well, earning a 3.763 GPA while majoring in Criminal Justice.
The lone graduating senior of WCU's quartet,
Angela Perez set a career-high in singles wins, picking up 14 during in 2025. She became one of only two Catamounts in program history to notch more than 40 career wins and was one of four to record double-digit solo wins this year. Her second career CSC Academic All-District nod comes after recording a 3.644 GPA, while majoring in sport management.
WCU's 2025 A-CAT-EMY Awards Female Comeback Athlete of the Year,
Chloe Schwarz made a triumphant return to the courts for the Catamounts this season with a 9-4 mark in singles play and partnered with
Jade Groen on the top court for a 10-5 record. Schwarz earned first-team All-SoCon doubles honors and picked up a ranked victory with Groen as the duo defeated the 58th ranked pairing from Furman. Schwarz earned her CSC All-District selection thanks to a 3.907 GPA in integrated health sciences.
Another one of the Catamount cornerstones this season,
Madison Schwarz battled for a career-high eight singles victories, splitting time across the second, third, and fourth courts. She also added 13 doubles wins to her totals, splitting time with
Jade Groen on the top court and
Angela Perez on the third. Schwarz was named to the CSC All-District Team after earning a 3.92 GPA in communications.
To date, Western Carolina has placed 24 student-athletes on the CSC Academic All-District team across five different sports – eight from football, four from volleyball, six from women's soccer, two from women's basketball, and four from women's tennis. Later this spring, the all-district teams for baseball, softball, and golf will be announced.
