Buies Creek, N.C. - Western Carolina slipped from sixth into a tie for seventh-place after shooting 312 as a team during Tuesday's final round of the Lonnie D. Small Spring Classic at the Keith Hills Country Club. First round leader, WCU junior Matt Cook, shot 80 on Tuesday to slip from the top spot into a three-way tie for 15th to lead the Catamounts.

Of the top four leading golfers from Monday's first round, Cook and Campbell's Matt Evans each slid to 15th, with Richmond's Jordan Utley and Gardner-Webb's Ryan Bell falling into a final tie for 11th-place. Radford's Josh Meador won individual medalist honors with a tournament-record, four-under 140 to win by three strokes.

Despite Evans' troubles on Tuesday, the host Campbell Camels claimed the team championship for a third-straight time, winning by a stroke over a hard-charging Radford Highlander squad which carded a tournament-low 289 in the second round. Elon shaved two strokes off its team score from the first round to the second to shoot 590 in third, followed by Gardner-Webb (606) and Longwood (607) rounding out the top five teams.

Cook was followed by redshirt freshman Cody Walker in a five-way tie for 20th with a four-over 148. Senior Tripp Morrow improved by two strokes in the second round to finish tied for 39th with a two-day total of 156, while sophomore Andres Cuenca placed tied for 44th with 157. Freshman Ricky Stout showed the most improvement over the two rounds, firing 79 over the final 18 holes to card a two-round total of 162.

As a team, the Catamounts finished tied for fourth in birdies with 22 as Cook finished tied for first with eight and Walker tallied six. The Cats also finished tied for fifth in par 3 scoring (3.30, +12), with Cook also shooting three-under on the par 5 holes (4.63).

Western Carolina returns to action next weekend, March 11-13, at the Samford Intercollegiate at the Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Ala.
