2008 Pinehurst Intercollegiate - Round One Results Get Acrobat Reader

Pinehurst, N.C. - Western Carolina carded an opening round 307 on Sunday to stand seventh after 18 holes at the 2008 Pinehurst Intercollegiate by Gatorade, co-hosted by East Carolina and Indiana at the par 72, 7,035-yard Centennial Pinehurst No. 8. Freshman Caleb Marsh and junior transfer Dustin Furnari lead the Catamounts in a tie for 18th-place after shooting four-over 76 on Sunday.

Round two of the three-day, 54-hole event will be played on Monday.

A trio of Indiana golfers fired rounds of under par to stake the Hoosiers to a 17-stroke lead at the event. IU's Seth Brandon leads the event after shooting a three-under par 69, leading teammate Ren Han by a one stroke. IU's Jorge Campillo, the 2007 Pinehurst Intercollegiate individual medalist, and St. Mary's Mike McRae trail Brandon by two strokes.

Indiana carded a team score of two-under par 286 and leads second place Ball State (303) and Virginia Commonwealth (303) by 17 strokes. Eastern Kentucky is fourth (+16) followed by UNC Greensboro (+17) to round out the top five.

For Western, Marsh and Furnari are just seven strokes off the lead in a seven-way tie for 18th. Junior Andres Cuenca is one stroke back with an opening round 77, tied for 26th. Rounding out WCU's scorers on the first day were sophomore Ricky Stout and senior Matt Cook, each six-over at 78, tied for 38th.
