LEXINGTON, Ky. - Western Carolina freshmen Carrie Minogue and Brittany Lysik each had 15 kills to lead the Catamounts (0-4) in their 3-1 (24-26, 25-23, 22-25, 19-25) loss against Pittsburgh to close out the Kentucky Classic. Earlier in the day, WCU fell to host Kentucky 3-0 (12-25, 18-25, 12-25).

"We faced a high-level of competition this week," said Head Coach Stephanie Dragan. "There is a lot of promise for this team, we proved we can compete."

In game one, Western Carolina was up 24-21, but Pittsburgh battled back to tie it at 24 all and then collected the final to points to clinch the first game. Western Carolina came back to tie the games at one a piece, tied at 23, a kills by Minogue and a Pitt error gave WCU the game. Pittsburgh won the final two games of the match to secure the win.

Minogue had a .522 attack percentage with the 15 kills and just three errors. Setter Katie Hennessey had 39 assists and Liz Rondone had 19 digs.

"Liz played out of her mind defensively," Dragan said. "She played with a lot of heart and passion."

In the earlier match, Western Carolina fell to Kentucky. Minogue led the club with seven kills.

Western Carolina returns to action September 5 as the Catamounts travel to Normal, Ill. to participate in the Redbird Classic.
