NORMAL, Ill. - Western Carolina volleyball (0-7) dropped a pair of matches to close out the Redbird Classic hosted by Illinois State. The Catamounts fell 3-0 (12-25, 15-25, 14-25) to Western Michigan in the fist match of the day Saturday and ended the tournament with a 3-1 (25-20, 11-25, 21-25, 14-25) loss to Oakland (3-3).

The Catamounts had just 19 kills in the match against Western Michigan with freshman Carrie Minogue collecting six of the 19. Junior Katie Hennessy added 14 assists.

Western Carolina won its first game in a match, at the Redbird Classic, taking game one in its match against Oakland. After a 3-3 tie, the Catamounts took the lead and never relinquished it. Freshman Brittany Lysik closed out game one, to give WCU an early 1-0 lead, off a kill from an assist by Hennessey.

For the second game of the day, Minogue lead the club recording 10 kills against Oakland. Lysik added nine and also had 17 digs. Junior libero Liz Rondone ground out 22 digs and Hennessey dished out 31 assists.

Western Carolina returns to action Saturday September 13 at North Carolina State taking on the Wolfpack and William & Mary.
