CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina volleyball (3-22, 0-11 SoCon) dropped a 3-0 decision against The Citadel (7-20, 2-8 SoCon) Saturday during its Dig Pink event.

The Catamounts had three tight sets but The Citadel battled throughout to close out each game. In the first match, the Bulldogs won by four, 21-25. In the preceding two sets, each were decided by two points.

In set two, Western Carolina and The Citadel were tied at 23 before the Bulldogs won the last two points off kills by Kaona Mercer and Tatum Jestilia. After the halftime break, The Citadel's Alyssa Holum set the tone early, serving six straight points to give The Citadel a 6-0 advantage to start the set.

Western Carolina battled back, and even looked to push the match to four sets, when the Catamounts led 23-20. The Citadel won the next three points to tie the set at 23. Three ties later, 26 all, the Bulldogs got a kill by Jestilia and then a service ace by Shannon Frain to close out the set and the match.

Carrie Minogue led the Catamounts with nine kills and committed just one error for a .286 attack percentage. Senior setter Katie Hennessey had a double-double with 29 assists and 14 digs.

Western Carolina will host rival Appalachian State in a mid-week match Wednesday at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed live on catamountsports.com.
