Cullowhee, N.C. - Friday night's Southern Conference series opener between Western Carolina and Georgia Southern has been cancelled due to rain and the threat of inclement weather, including heavy downpours and severe thunderstorms across the region.

The two teams will open the three-game conference series at 2:00 pm in game one of a scheduled double-header, with the second game to follow at the conclusion of the opener at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.

The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon with game three scheduled for a 2:00 pm start.

Friday's opening game was originally slated for a 6:00 pm start. However, the threat of rain and inclement weather prompted officials to hold the start in the interest of safety and to wait out the oncoming storms. The official decision to cancel the opener and schedule Saturday's double-header came just before 7:00 pm.

At least two additional SoCon games experienced schedule changes due to the weather system on Friday.
