ATHENS, Ga. - Western Carolina volleyball (3-11) fell to Georgia (10-3) 3-1 (25-15, 25-23, 21-25, 25-16) in mid-week action Wednesday.
Trailing 2-0, after the first two sets, Western Carolina was in danger of being swept by an opponent for the third straight match, but the Catamounts fought back. Tied at 13, in the third game, senior Amanda Kerr delivered one of her team-high 15 kills to give WCU a 14-13 advantage. Western Carolina never trailed again in the match, and took game three thanks to a kill by Paloma Alvarez.
Western Carolina ended the match with a .172 attack percentage, but in game three, the Catamounts put together a scorching .355 attack percentage, with just four errors. Overall, the club had 23 errors and 46 kills.
Senior setter Katie Hennessey recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 15 digs. Sophomore Brittany Lysik had two service aces.
Western Carolina opens Southern Conference play Saturday at College of Charleston. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
