CHARLESTON, S.C. - Western Carolina volleyball (3-12, 0-1 SoCon) dropped its opening Southern Conference match to College of Charleston (5-8, 1-0 SoCon) 3-1 Saturday.

Paloma Alvarez led the Catamounts with 14 kills on 32 kills and just three errors for a .344 attack percentage. Senior libero Liz Rondone had 19 digs and fellow senior setter Katie Hennessey added 31 assists.

Western Carolina will play at Appalachian State on Wednesday. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
