CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Sunday softball game with Western Carolina and Furman was called after an inning and a half due to heavy rains and deteriorating field conditions. The game will not be able to count as an official contest.
Furman led the game 6-0, scoring all its runs in the top of the second. The game was scoreless after one inning, and Catamount pitcher Katie King had two outs and a runner on first, when the game was suspended due to rain. After a 20 minute rain delay, the game resumed, and the Paladins proceeded to post six runs with two outs in the inning.
Western Carolina was preparing to bat in the bottom of the second, but the rain became increasingly steady and the game was called off.
The Catamounts will play a mid-week game at Georgia State on Tuesday. The first pitch of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
