Morganton, N.C. - First-round leader Western Carolina slipped into second place after 36 holes on Monday at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State at the par-72, 6,540-yard Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club. WCU is nine-strokes off the pace and leads the host Mountaineers by one stroke with 18 holes to play.

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning. In unique fashion, all three rounds are being played in twosomes rather than the typical foursomes used most widely in collegiate golf.

Trailing the Catamounts by a stroke after the opening round, Lynn College (568) posted a tournament-low team round of 282 to take a seven-stroke lead over WCU (577) into the final round. Appalachian State is in third at 578 with Presbyterian at 579 and Gardner-Webb at 580 rounding out the top five. The top five teams are all within 12 strokes of the tournament championship with four of the top five separated by just three strokes.

Junior Trey White led two Catamounts in the 60s over the opening 18 holes, carding a career-low round of four-under 68 with sophomore Jack Walsh shooting a season-best, three-under 69. Walsh followed up his first round with a one-under 71 to stand tied for sixth to pace WCU while White - who was tied for third after 18 holes - slipped into a tie for 12th, firing four-over 76 in the second round to be in the clubhouse at even-par, 144.

Freshman J.T. Poston trimmed seven strokes off of his opening-round 77 to shot two-under 70 to move into a tie for 26th entering the final round.

Rounding out WCU's side is sophomore Greg Bunner in a tie for 30th after rounds of 74 and 75 at 149 and freshman Charlie Kilzer (153) in a tie for 42nd after shooting rounds of 74 and 79 on Monday.

Matt Sizemore (132) of Presbyterian leads the individual field after posting consecutive rounds of 66 on Monday. Sizemore holds a slim, two-stroke lead over a two-way tie for second between Lynn College's Marcelo Rozo (69-65=134) and Kristopher Gray (67-67=134) of Gardner-Webb.
