Western Carolina's women's volleyball team fell to the College of Charleston Saturday afternoon 1-3 (18-25, 25-22, 22-25, 22-25) at TD Arena in Charleston. Freshmen Caitlin Piechota and Jordan Timmermann posted double-doubles in the loss.

The Cougars were led by Elyse Chub and Lizzie Theesefeld who both posted career-high kills with 17 and 15, respectively. The Catamounts had four in double-digits in scoring as Timmermann, Piechota and Scroggins each had 11 kills. Senior Rebecca Stoltz added 10 kills to go along with eight digs and three blocks. Piechota and Timmermann posted their seventh and third double-doubles of the season.

College of Charleston got ahead to a 17-11 lead before the Catamounts would bring themselves within two points of an 18-16 C of C lead. Elyse Chubb totaled four kills in that stretch. The Cougars would go on to win the first set, 25-18, behind the play of Chubb. Chubb led the team with five kills in the opening set. The Cougars hit well in the first set, hitting at a .344 clip.

After dropping the first set to the Cougars, the Catamounts came back and were able to pull out a victory in the second set, 25-22. The Catamounts led the entire match, pulling ahead with their largest lead of the night of seven.

The third set was just as competitive as the first two. Three straight points would put the Cougars up 11-8 before extending their lead to 17-12. Western Carolina would fight back to pull within two, 15-17, of the College of Charleston. The surge would lead to a C of C timeout. Western Carolina would tie the set at 22 after a Timmermann kill. The Cougars would take the set with two kills from Elyse Chubb in the final three points, winning the set 25-22 and taking a 2-1 advantage in the match.

Abbey Scroggins reached double-digit kills for the second time this season, the first coming against UNC Asheville back on Sept. 13 when the junior totaled 12 kills. Freshman Jordan Timmermann reached 10 kills again for the fourth time this season. The freshman finished with 11 kills on the night.

C of C would streak out of the gates in set four to take an 8-4 lead over the Catamounts. WCU would - again - claw its way back into the match, getting to within one of the Cougars' 9-8 advantage. Chubb's 15th kill of the evening -tying a season high - would give C of C a 14-13 lead. WCU would get consecutive points from Piechota and Scroggins to get within two of the Cougars at 20-22, leading to a C of C timeout.

Minogue's three total blocks put her at 278 for her career as she moves into seventh on the all-time career blocks list, jumping ahead of Emily Tillotson's 277 blocks.

"Overall I was pleased with how the team played," commented head coach Karen Glover.

"We had some great, long rallies but just couldn't put the ball away when we needed to."
