CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina fell to the College of Charleston 7-0 in women's tennis action Saturday at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The win ended the SoCon season for both teams, with the Cougars ending a perfect 10-0 on the season. Being the last home match of the season for the Catamounts, Western Carolina honored lone senior Izabella Glinska on Senior Day.

"It was a pleasure coaching Izabella during her senior year," said head coach Chris Wollett.

"As team captain, she's proven herself to be a leader with our tennis program. We will miss her when she graduates."

TCougar No. 1 duo Emma Hayman and Katie Lee defeated Carolina Lainez and Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz, 8-1, clinching the doubles point. In No. 2 doubles action, after falling behind 5-1, Izabella Glinska and Karen Jimenez battled back into the match winning three straight games, but ultimately fell 8-5.

In singles action, Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz went to a first set tiebreak in the No. 3 match. Iglesias Diaz dropped the tiebreak set and then went on to drop the second set 6-2. In the No. 5 match, Katie Barry lost 6-0, 6-0 to Olivia McMillan.

Senior Izabella Glinska fell in her last match with the Catamounts. The Toronto, Ontario-native lost 6-1, 6-3 to Christin Newman in the No. 1 match. Sophomore Karen Jimenez was downed 6-2, 6-4 in a match that was a lot closer than the score indicates. Both competitors battled back and forth throughout the entire match.

The No. 2 match was the last match of the day to conclude. In the end, Caroline Newman overcame Carolina Lainez 6-4, 6-3.

"Historically, the College of Charleston has always had a very good tennis program and our players competed hard today, commented Wollett.

"Having a couple of close sets in today's match will hopefully give us the confidence we need going into the tournament."

Western Carolina will be back in action tomorrow as the Catamounts travel to Durham to take on North Carolina Central.
