Final Stats

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - After dropping the first set, Western Carolina came back to win three straight, topping the Lady Mocs, 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-20) picking up its first conference win. The win was the sixth of the season for the Catamounts (6-10, 1-0) - their second straight at home - matching the win total for all of the 2010 season. Chattanooga falls to 2-12 (0-1) on the season.

Even though the Lady Mocs totaled more kills, assists and digs, the Catamounts outblocked Chattanooga as a team, 15.0-4.0. The total is the most for the Catamounts this season. Western Carolina had three players over four total blocks with Rebecca Stoltz leading the way with seven total blocks. Junior Abbey Scroggins logged six total blocks while Carrie Minogue had five.

Chattanooga came away with the first set behind solid offensive play. WCU hit a match low .143 in the first set.

After being behind 20-13 in the second set, WCU went on a 6-0 run behind the serve of Jordan Timmermann. The three seniors - Carrie Minogue, Brittany Lysik and Rebecca Stoltz - then came away with three consecutive kills to give the Catamounts a 22-21 lead that would eventually even the match up at two sets apiece.

Set three began close as both teams stayed within a couple of points of each other. After taking a 13-12 lead - the Catamounts' first of the set - WCU went on to win the set 25-18. The Catamounts never trailed again in the match, finishing off the Lady Mocs, 25-20.

Aside from Minogue's five total blocks, the senior led the way offensively for Western Carolina with 12 kills. She also added two assists, two aces and two digs. Brittany Lysik dished out 33 assists en route to another double-double, adding 10 digs to the winning effort. Sophomore libero Morgan Cochran also returned to the court after missing several games due to illness. Cochran notched 16 digs in her first match back.

The Catamounts look to pick up another win tomorrow as the Samford Bulldogs come to the Ramsey Center Sunday afternoon. The match will begin at 3:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on CatamountSports.com.
