2011 Mason Rudolph Championship Final Results Get Acrobat Reader

Franklin, Tenn. - Western Carolina carded a season-best 289 as a team on Sunday to rally two positions in the final standings Sunday, placing in a two-way tie for 12th at the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt at the par-71, 7,100-yard Legend's Club. The Catamounts posted a three-day total of 896 to finish knotted with Georgia State.

Sophomore Jack Walsh led the five Catamount golfers, posting a team-best, one-under par 70 on Sunday to advance into a tie for 34th in the final standings with a three-day total of 219. True freshman J.T. Poston carded his best round of the 54-hole event over the final round, shooting 224 to place in a tie for 51st while sophomore Greg Bunner was one-stroke in arrears in a tie for 55th at 225. A Gastonia, N.C., product, Bunner averaged three-under on the par-5 holes for the tournament.

Rounding out WCU's side were freshmen Charlie Kilzer and Matthew Turner, both playing in their first collegiate event. Kilzer, a native of Charlotte, finished in a tie for 72nd overall after posting his best round of 75 over the final 18 holes to shoot 231. Turner, a high school teammate of Catamount teammates Poston and Trey White, shot a one-over 72 - WCU's second-best round of the final day - to place in a tie for 75th at 233 for the three-day tournament.

Middle Tennessee rallied from its second-place standing after 36 holes to win the three-round event over second-place Mississippi by a single stroke, 844-to-845. Southern Conference-foe - and first-round leader - Georgia Southern finished third, four strokes off the pace at 848, with Oklahoma (851) and Memphis (856) rounding out the top five team standings.

Other notables included SoCon schools Davidson (6th, 858), College of Charleston (7th, 859) and Samford (10th, 873).

Middle Tennessee's Hunter Green moved three spots in the final individual standings to take home individual medalist honors by two strokes over Davidson's John Skeadas, 205-to-207.

Western Carolina returns to action next weekend at the North Carolina State Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event is scheduled for Oct. 3-4 at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
