2012 Samford Intercollegiate - Final Results 
HOOVER, Ala. -
Posting a final round 298, the Western Carolina men's golf team finished in a three-way tie for fifth place at the Samford Intercollegiate held at the par-72, 7001-yard Hoover Country Club. It is the second top-five finish for the year, the first of the spring portion of the season as WCU advanced two spots after the opening two rounds.
The Catamounts were led by freshman J.T. Poston, who posted an eight-over, 224, for the 54-hole event, finishing tied for fifteenth in the overall standings. Poston improved as the tournament continued following his first round 78. The Hickory, N.C., native carded consecutive rounds of 76 and a two-under 70 on the final 18 to finish the tournament.
Sophomore Jack Walsh tallied a three-round total of 225 (79-69-77) as he tied for seventeenth at nine over par. Also guiding the Catamounts to their fifth-place finish were Greg Bunner (79-75-74=228), Steven Smith (80-73-77=230) and Trey White (77-78-80=235).
Host Samford University won the event with a total score of 882, led by the individual medalist in Casey O'Toole. He posted rounds of 73, 66 and 72. Southern Conference foe Davidson tied for second with Austin Peay State as both schools shot 891.
The Catamounts travel to Greenville, S.C. to participate in the Furman Intercollegiate at the Furman University Golf Course March 16-18 with teams playing 18 holes each day.
