Track & Field Captures Eight Top-Five Finishes

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Western Carolina's track & field team competed for the third consecutive day as the Catamounts participated in the North Carolina A&T Aggie Classic in Greensboro, N.C., Sunday. The Catamounts notched eight top-five finishes, including five wins.

The men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams swept their respective races as the men's team won the event for the second straight day with their time of 3:09.77 besting North Carolina Central's second place finish by more than a second. The women's team won with their time of 3:43.19. The time is the fastest this season. The women's 4x100-meter relay team placed third with their time of 46.68.

WCU picked up wins in three field events. In the women's discus, freshman Alisha Bradshaw topped the field with her throw of 43.43m. Teammate Summer Hughes won the javelin for the second consecutive day with her throw of 41.15m. In the men's hammer, Jamie Van Pelt also picked up a victory. Van Pelt also picked up a third-place finish in the discus with his throw of 47.07m.

Senior Felisha Garren picked up her fifth top-five finish of the outdoor season as she placed fourth with her time of 54.82, just off her fastest time of the season, 54.63.

Cornelius Williams capped his senior season by tying his season-best leap of 14.99m in the triple jump to finish fifth.

Sunday's meet represented the last meet of the season before the NCAA Regional Meet, set to begin on May 24, in Jacksonville, Fla.
