Track and Field Splits for Duke and Lenoir-Rhyne-Hosted Meets

Cullowhee, N.C. – This spring weekend brings about split-squad action for Western Carolina track and field as the squad will divide for the weekend, sending student-athletes to the Duke Invitational (April 10-11) in Durham, N.C., and some scheduled for competition at the Lenoir-Rhyne-hosted Southside Power and Fitness Invitational (April 10-11) in Hickory, N.C.

Though the Duke Invitational officially started with the combined events on April 8, the Catamounts are set to see action in Durham, N.C., beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the women's hammer throw.

The Southside Power and Fitness Invitational gets started at 10 a.m. on April 10 with the multis' events, before rolling into the women's javelin at Noon.

Catamounts to Watch:

For the third time this outdoor season, the Catamounts claimed three SoCon Track & Fled Athlete of the Week honors, with Toria Roundtree, Austin Cline, and Christian Roberts all receiving the honor for their performances at the VertKlasse Meeting. Roundtree ranks third in the WCU all-time performance list for the discus. Christian Roberts is fourth on the all-time list in the 110m and 400m hurdles, while Austin Cline improved on his fifth-place standing in the men's hammer throw.

The Catamounts are sending a strong contingent of distance runners to the Duke Invitational, with 11 entries across the 1,500m and longer events. Eli Clonch, Justin Hayes, Matthias Peterson, Jaleb Saunders, Chase Thurber, Bradley White, and Matthew Womack are set to compete for the men's team with Amaya Hicks, Katherine Hopkins, Peyton Skoglund, and Ashlynn Watkins on the women's side.

Up Next for The Catamounts:

Western Carolina has time away from the track as the squad returns to action on April 24-25 for the annual Catamount Classic, hosted on campus at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The event is a precursor to hosting the 2026 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 11-12, with the NCAA East Prelims set for May 27-30.
