Catamount Volleyball Falters at Elon

Elon, N.C. - Caitlin Piechota and Cristina Nazario recorded double-doubles in a four set loss, 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23) to Elon for the Western Carolina volleyball Saturday night in a Southern Conference match in Alumni Gym.

Piechota's double-double came on 11 kills and 11 digs for the Catamounts, while Nazario handed out 39 assists and 14 digs for her double-double. Jordan Timmermann recorded a match-high 13 kills. Timmermann has led the WCU attack for the last eight matches. Morgan Cochran had a match 22 digs, while Addy George had five total blocks, all block assists.

Elon broke a tie at nine in the first set with a 4-0 run to take a 13-9 lead. WCU was never able to close the gap and get back into the set as the Catamounts fell 25-20.

The Phoenix took control of the second set early with a 13-8 lead en route to a 25-17 set win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was a tightly contested back and forth set. Elon held the first lead, 15-12, but WCU fought back and tied the set at 17. The Catamounts pulled ahead 21-19 and held on for the 25-23 set win.

WCU held a 13-11 lead in the fourth set as the Catamounts looked to pull even in the match. Leading 21-16, WCU allowed Elon back into the set as the Phoenix trimmed the Catamount lead down to 21-20. The Phoenix eventually pulled even at 23 and took the final two points in the set to claim the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-1.

The Catamounts return to the Ramsey Center for the final time in 2013 with Samford on Saturday, November 9 at 6 p.m. and Chattanooga on Sunday, November 10 at 3 p.m. The match against Chattanooga on Sunday will be Senior Day for the Catamounts.
