- Western Carolina halts an eight-game losing skid to Wofford ... It also represented WCU's first home victory over the Terriers since 2005;
- Western Carolina improved to 3-0 at home in 2014;
- Western Carolina improves to 2-0 in the Southern Conference - the first time the Catamounts have been 2-0 in the SoCon since 2003 ... It is just the ninth time since WCU joined the SoCon in 1977 that WCU has opened the conference season 2-0 ... It is also the first time since 2005 WCU has had more than one league victory in a season (4-3 in '05);
- Western Carolina's four wins to date in 2014 are the most victories for the program since five wins in 2005.

Post-Game Notes:
- Western Carolina limited the potent Wofford rushing offense to 270 yards on the ground - the lowest output for Wofford this season ... the 14 points also represented the fewest points scored by the Terriers in 2014;

- Freshman running back Detrez Newsome took the opening kickoff against Wofford 100 yards for a touchdown ... It was the first time since 2011 that WCU returned a kickoff return for a TD (George Richardson, 99 yards vs. Furman, Oct. 1, 2011);

- For the fourth time this year, Newsome recorded two touchdowns in a game - three games with two rushing TDs prior to Saturday ... In addition to the 100-yard kickoff return for a score, Newsome added a fourth quarter 24-yard rushing touchdown - his seventh TD on the ground this fall ... He finished with 169 all-purpose yards;

- Western Carolina's defense recorded a third quarter safety against Wofford, the only points in the quarter... It is the first safety for WCU since 2006 (Appalachian State, Nov. 11, 2006) ... It also represents the first points scored by the WCU defense this season;

- Tale of the tape in the first half, Western Carolina defense denied Wofford two big scoring chances - freshman defensive lineman Ezavian Dunn blocked a field goal and the WCU defense forced and recovered a Wofford fumble at the goal line ... Dunn's blocked field goal is the first for a Catamount since Ace Clark swatted an attempt against The Citadel in 2013;

- Senior quarterback Garrett Brown's team-high 67 yards rushing was a career-high.

- Junior quarterback Troy Mitchell picked up his 13th career rushing touchdown on Saturday on a one-yard plunge early in the fourth quarter;

Miscellaneous Notes:
- Western Carolina's team captains for Saturday evening's game were: junior QB #10 Troy Mitchell; senior QB #18 Garrett Brown; junior tailback #20 Darius Ramsey; senior DB #28 Ace Clark; and senior LB #37 K.P. Hicks ... Western Carolina won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff.
