Catamounts Drop Hard Fought Contest at Chattanooga

Chattanooga, Tenn. - The Western Carolina University volleyball team fell in a back-and-forth match on the road at Chattanooga Saturday afternoon. The match featured 10 lead changes and 24 ties scores in just three sets. The Mocs prevailed 25-23, 25-22 and 25-22 despite the Catamounts valiant effort.

Senior Caitlin Piechota had a match-high 13 kills and 15 digs as she registered her seventh double-double of the season. Classmate Jordan Timmerman turned in 12 kills and 12 digs which marked her fifth double-double of the year.

Senior Addy George came up two kills short of double-figures with eight while also leading the team with a pair of blocks. Junior Cristina Nazario was just shy of a double-double with 24 assists and nine digs while freshman Jo-Leigh Vervelde had 11 assists, 12 digs and four kills. Junior libero Elyssa Mulheron extended her double-digit digs streak to 18 matches with 13 digs.

The Mocs improved to 9-10 on the year and 2-2 in SoCon play while the Catamounts fall to 7-11 and 0-4 in SoCon action.

All three sets were highly competitive but it was the Mocs who were able to pull away late and secure the win at home. Chattanooga was led by Kristy Wieser and Allie Davenport who each registered 11 kills on the day.

Western Carolina will be back in action this Saturday, Oct. 11 at noon as the Catamounts welcome ETSU to the Ramsey Center.
