With the Loss ...
- Western Carolina saw its three-game seasonal win streak snapped, while also seeing its eight-game win streak in the series with Presbyterian halted ... It was WCU's first loss to Presbyterian since 1969, and the first road loss in the series dating back to 1966;
- Western Carolina's 14 points were the fewest scored by the Catamount offense in the last 10 games dating back to the Auburn road loss, 62-3, last season.
Post-Game Notes:
- Western Carolina was limited to a season-low 14 points ... It snapped a string of four-straight games of scoring 30-or-more points this season ... the Catamounts were limited to a season-low 359 yards of total offense - just six fewer yards than the 365 amassed in the Catawba win;
- After scoring two-or-more rushing touchdowns in each of its first four games this season, the Catamounts were held without a score on the ground at Presbyterian;
- The Catamount defense held Presbyterian to a season-low, 222 yards of total offense including a season-low 89 rushing yards ... the defense only allowed one score - the second quarter sneak by QB Kaleb Griffin;
- Western Carolina suffered turnovers on its first two possessions - a bobbled completion that was intercepted and taken in for a touchdown for the early 6-0 PC lead ... WCU saw its second drive stall after a couple of big gains on the ground with a lost fumble;
- Presbyterian's early interception return for a touchdown marked the first time since the season-opener that Western Carolina trailed an opponent this season ... WCU had not trailed in 12-straight quarters in its three victories over Brevard, Catawba and Furman;
- Sophomore CB Trey Morgan came up with his team-leading third interception of the season - and the fourth of his WCU career - in the first quarter ... Morgan's pick directly led to WCU's first offensive touchdown as the Catamounts turned the takeaway into seven points;
- Sophomore TE Tyler Sexton hauled in his first career touchdown on a first quarter fourth down play, a 31-yard streak for the score that gave the Catamounts their first lead of the day, 7-6;
- Western Carolina trailed at halftime for the first time this season, falling behind Presbyterian 13-7 at intermission on Saturday afternoon;
- Presbyterian's two interception returns for scores were the first for a WCU opponent since the Virginia Tech game on Sept. 7, 2013 when Detrick Bonner returned a pick 37 yards for a TD;
- The Catamounts' third quarter touchdown officially went down as capping a three-play drive ... however, prior to the score, WCU converted a fourth-down on Destry Barnwell's six-yard rush on a fourth and three situation ... that drive also featured a Presbyterian interception, but Troy Mitchell forced a fumble that Karnorris Benson fell on to keep the football with the Purple & Gold;
- Despite entering the game with a SoCon-leading 47.8-percentage rate in third-down conversions, the Catamounts were stymied on third down Saturday at Presbyterian, finishing just 3-of-14 (21.4%).
Miscellaneous Notes:
- Western Carolina's team captains for Saturday afternoon's game were: junior QB #10 Troy Mitchell; senior QB #18 Garrett Brown; junior RB #20 Darius Ramsey; senior DB #28 Ace Clark; and senior LB #37 K.P. Hicks ... Western Carolina won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff.
