With the Win ...
- Western Carolina matches the total number of victories from the 2013 season and matches the season-high from WCU under head coach Mark Speir;
- Represents the first back-to-back victories for the Catamount football team since the first two games of the 2006 season (42-0 vs, Chowan and 20-17 vs. #19 Eastern Kentucky);
- WCU's consecutive-game winning streak over Catawba goes to three-straight dating back to 1969 ... It is the first, three-game win streak for WCU against the Indians in the all-time series ... Saturday's meeting was the first in 45 years;
Post-Game Notes:
- In the first three games of the season, Western Carolina has scored a total of 111 points ... It is the first-time since 2007 that WCU has scored 30-or-more in three-straight games (Nov. 10, 2007 - 35 at Appalachian State; Oct. 25, 2007 - 44 vs. Wofford; Oct. 20, 2007 - 31 vs. The Citadel);
- WCU scored 14 first quarter points for the third-straight game, getting off to a fast start against Catawba on Saturday afternoon;
- With a pair of rushing touchdowns against Catawba, freshman tailback Detrez Newsome has scored two touchdowns in back-to-back games ... He also led all receivers with six catches for 49 yards ... All told, Newsome had 138 all-purpose yards in the win;
- Junior quarterback Troy Mitchell threw for 223 yards on Saturday, the second-most yards through the air in his WCU career ... His two TD passes represented the second time this season - and the seventh time in his Catamount career - that he had tossed two-or-more touchdowns in a game;
- Mitchell added his second rushing TD of the season - and the 12th of his career - in the third quarter to account for three TDs in the winning effort;
- Sophomore WR Willie Police came away with his first career receiving touchdown against Catawba, a career-long 56-yard pitch-and-catch in the first quarter that gave WCU a 14-0 first half lead ... Police finished with three catches for 67 yards;
- Redshirt sophomore Spearman Robinson's touchdown reception - the first WCU TD of the game - was his second of the season;
- Western Carolina's defense came away with two interceptions against Catawba ... It was the first time since picking off a pair of passes at Virginia Tech on Sept. 7, 2013 ... Sophomore Trey Morgan made his second career interception while Sertonuse Harris came away with his first career INT off a deflected ball by Ace Clark;
- WCU forced four turnovers in Saturday's win over Catawba - two fumbles and two interceptions;
- Redshirt freshman linebacker Daniel Riddle made his first career start on Saturday, subbing for the injured sophomore Tyson Dickson who was held out of the game on Saturday ... Riddle responded with a career-best outing, finishing with a game-high 18 tackles including seven solo stops and three tackles for loss with a sack ... the Raleigh, N.C., native added two forced fumbles;
- Redshirt senior Ace Clark and senior Christon Gill both recorded double-digit tackles in back-to-back games ... Clark finished with a dozen stops while Gill had 10 tackles with two TFLs and a sack;
- Freshman punter Destry Barnwell punted five times for 209 yards, averaging 41.8 yards per boot including a career-long 58-yard kick.

- Western Carolina's team captains for Saturday evening's game were: junior QB #10 Troy Mitchell; senior QB #18 Garrett Brown; senior DB #28 Ace Clark; and senior LB #37 K.P. Hicks ... Western Carolina won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff.
