With the Win ...
- Western Carolina halted its four-game losing streak dating back to last season, evening its record to 1-1 on the season;
- Western Carolina improves its overall record against Brevard to 2-0 ... Saturday's meeting was the first between the two schools since 1945 - and the first since Brevard revived its football program in 2006;
- WCU won its 30 home-opening game at E.J. Whitmire Stadium dating back to 1974 ... The win is also the Catamounts' 19th home-opening victory in the last 23 games;
Post-Game Notes:
- For a second-straight week, Western Carolina put 14 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter ... WCU has now scored 28 first quarter points in its first two games of 2014 ... the Catamounts only managed to score 29 points in the opening quarter through 12 games during the 2013 season;
- The 45 points scored by Western Carolina are the most by a team under the direction of head coach Mark Speir ... the Catamounts scored 42 points in Speir's first season in 2012 in a home win over Mars Hill;
- Coupled with last week's 31 points at South Florida, Western Carolina recorded double-digit scoring in back-to-back games for the first time since 2010 ... the last time WCU scored 30-or-more points in back-to-back games came in a loss at The Citadel, 45-31, and a at L, at Elon 42-31);

- Western Carolina had three running backs account for all six touchdowns in Saturday's win over the Tornados ... the six rushing scores were two shy of the WCU school record for rushing TDs in a single-game ... Junior running back Darius Ramsey scored a career-high three touchdowns on the ground in the win over Brevard ... Ramsey carried the ball nine times for 88 yard;
- Freshman running back Detrez Newsome scored a career-high two touchdowns against Brevard ... He had 88 yards rushing ... Newsome finished the game with 207 yards of total offense, adding 99 yards on kickoff returns and 20 yards receiving on two catches;
- Nursing a foot injury, senior tailback Shaun Warren scored his first TD of the season against Brevard, a two-yard run in the fourth quarter ... Warren matches Troy Mitchell for the most career touchdowns among active players with 11;
- Senior captain K.P. Hicks blocked a fourth quarter punt for the Catamounts ... It was the first blocked punt for WCU since Trey Selby blocked an attempt at Chattanooga back in 2008;
- A trio of Catamount defenders recorded double-digit tackles in Saturday night including a game-high 15 for senior Ace Clark, 12 for senior Christon Gill and a career-high 10 for sophomore linebacker Tyson Dickson ... WCU's defense accounted for eight tackles for loss against the run-oriented Brevard squad.

- Western Carolina's team captains for Saturday evening's game were: junior QB #10 Troy Mitchell; senior QB #18 Garrett Brown; senior DB #28 Ace Clark; ... Western Carolina won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff;
- North Carolina Congressman Mark Meadows of the 11th district was on hand as an honorary captain and participated in the pregame coin toss prior to Saturday's game.
