BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Western Carolina volleyball freshman Alyssa Zupan was the only Catamount to reach double figure kills Saturday afternoon at Samford University as WCU fell 3-0 to the Bulldogs in Southern Conference action. Zupan finished with 13 kills on 21 attacks while committing two errors for a .524 attack percentage.

Zupan added seven digs to finish tied for second on the team in that category. Freshman Devan Ingram came off the bench to put down five kills while putting up a single block.

Sophomore setter Jo-Leigh Vervelde finished with 15 assists and seven digs while sophomore libero Lucy Lambert led the team with 10 digs.

The Bulldogs used a strong offensive performance to down the Catamounts as they hit .351 as a team while holding WCU to a .165 team attack percentage.

Krista Boesing led the Bulldogs with 15 kills while T.J. Russell added 12.

The first set was back-and-forth with 10 tie scores and four lead changes but the Bulldogs pulled off the victory by scoring the final three points of the set, 25-20. A run midway through the second set opened up an eight point lead for the Bulldogs and they never looked back as they went on to claim the period 25-18. The Catamounts led early in the third set but the Bulldogs battled back to tie the set at 15. The rest of the set would be tight but leading 23-22 late in the period, the Bulldogs scored two of the final three points to take the match 25-23.

WCU will return home to face ETSU on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7 pm. It is the start of a three game home stand for the Catamounts.
