For the first time since Feb. 7, the Western Carolina women's tennis team played with a full roster. Freshman Elizabeth Ansari returned to the lineup to play at No. 3 doubles and No. 4 singles. However, the Catamounts were unable to overcome the host Wofford Terriers as they fell 6-1 in Southern Conference action.
With the loss the Catamounts fall to 4-14 overall and 1-4 in Southern Conference play. The Terriers improve to 9-10 overall and 2-5 in SoCon action.
The Catamounts lone point came in the No. 5 singles match where junior Erin Maguire defeated Mareli Sanchez 6-3, 2-6, 10-3.
The Catamounts dropped the doubles point after losing at No. 1, 8-1, and at No. 3, 8-0. The No. 2 doubles match was halted with the score in Wofford's favor, 6-5.
Ansari won the opening game of the No. 4 singles match but retired to give Wofford their second point of the match. The Terriers would take a 3-0 lead after WCU's Montse Mesalles fell to Lauren Reid, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6. The Terriers clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 as Nicole Nielly fell to Kalli Karas.
Senior Megan McLinden fell at No. 1 to Catherin Martin 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 before Shannon Bettiol dropped her No. 2 match to Audrey Coventry 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. The final match of the day came at No. 5 where Maguire earned her tiebreaker victory.
The Catamounts will get right back to action tomorrow as they return home to face Samford at noon.
