Women's Golf Completes Day One at William & Mary Invitational

Williamsburg, Va. - Playing its first two rounds of the 2017-18 season, the Western Carolina women's golf team sits in 11th-place overall at the season-opening William & Mary Invitational being played at the par-72, 6,122-yard Kingsmill Resort River Course.

WCU trimmed 14 strokes off its team score from the first round, 349, to its second round tally of 335 for a 36-hole score of 684.

Senior Alyssa Morahan carded rounds of 85 and 82 to sit in a two-way tie for 57th overall with a two-round total of 167 to lead the Catamounts after the first day of competition. Classmate Amanda Floberg is three strokes in arrears in 60th overall at 170 (88-82), while junior transfer Shannon Heerey is 61st after shooting 174 (89-85).

Rounding out WCU's scoring five is sophomore Brianna Plummer in 64th overall (91-86=177) and freshman Maya White (87-92=179) of Fletcher, N.C., 66th overall in her first collegiate action.

Penn State holds a two-stroke lead over second-place Seton Hall, 590-to-592, after 36 of the scheduled 54 holes. UNCW sits in third, six-strokes off the pace at 596 with College of Charleston (600) and tourney-host, William & Mary (606) rounding out the top five.

Madeline Sager of Seton Hall shot an even-par, 144 (74-70) to hold a two-stroke advantage over a two-way for second between UNCW's Kayla Thompson (75-71=146) and Cara Basso (73-73=146) of Penn State, with a total of four women's golfers within three strokes of the individual lead.
