Cullowhee, N.C. -
Unfavorable weather forecasts and travel concerns have led to the cancellation of Western Carolina baseball’s midweek nonconference game against Tennessee Tech originally scheduled for Wednesday (March 21) afternoon at Smokies Stadium, the home ballpark of the Tennessee Smokies Double-A team.
Western Carolina (2-17) now turns its attention to the weekend and the opening of Southern Conference play with a three-game series against The Citadel (9-11) at Joe Riley Park in Charleston, S.C. The two most decorated programs in SoCon baseball history square-off with the series opening Friday at 6:00 pm, with Saturday’s game scheduled for 2:00 pm, and first pitch Sunday at 1:00 pm.
Both teams enter the weekend series off victories. WCU halted a 14-game slide with a home win over Mid-American Conference favorite Kent State last Sunday while the Bulldogs snapped a three-game slide with a road win over in-state SEC rival, South Carolina, on Tuesday night.
Each game is slated to be broadcast on the Catamount Sports Network with live streaming audio available online at CatamountSports.com. The Citadel’s video stream on the SoCon Digital Network is also scheduled for each day.
