Cullowhee, N.C. -
Steady rain showers and unfavorable weather forecasts into the evening hours have prompted game officials at Western Carolina University to postpone Friday afternoon’s opening game of the three-game Southern Conference series with the UNCG Spartans at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.
First pitch of Friday’s game was originally moved from its scheduled 5:00 pm start time to 3:00 pm in an attempt to get ahead of the rainy forecasts. However, rain showers moved into the area earlier than anticipated, pushing the estimated start time to 4:00 pm. Teams went through the normal pregame regiment at the field, but steady rain started during infield practice causing the tarp to be reapplied to the playing surface. Both coaches and university officials met and looking at the forecast made the decision to postpone Friday’s game.
As of Friday afternoon, the plan is to resume the normal schedule on Saturday, April 7 with first pitch of game one set for 4:00 pm as originally scheduled as the two squads attempt to play all three games. However, and only if weather permits, the first game could potentially begin earlier in the afternoon in an attempt to play a doubleheader on Saturday.
