ORLANDO, Fla. – Western Carolina women's tennis continued its winning ways on the Catamounts' spring break swing through Florida coming up with a 5-2 win over UNC Wilmington Wednesday.
TURNING POINT:
Western Carolina took the doubles point winning two of the three matches and clinched the match winning four of the six singles matches.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Western Carolina got wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to seal the win and earn the doubles point.
- The Catamounts took an early 3-0 lead as Savannah Taranto won at No. 4 singles and Jacy Smith was victorious at No. 2 singles.
- UNCW earned a point as junior Jordan Strickland lost at No. 1 singles in three sets.
- Julia Pezzuco's win at No. 6 singles clinched the match for the Catamounts.
NOTES:
- Western Carolina has won six of its last seven matches and three straight.
- Rookie Jacy Smith has won six-straight matches at No. 2 singles and nine of her last 10. She currently leads the team with a 10-3 singles record.
UPCOMING:
Western Carolina will continue to enjoy warm and sunny Florida during their spring trip. They will face Saint Joseph's at 11:00 a.m. Thursday.
