CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis had a strong showing in day one of the WCU Fall Invite Saturday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
The Catamounts swept the doubles portion of the match-up with USC Upstate. Senior Jordan Strickland was paired up with rookie Emily Elliott and the duo won at No. 1 7-6. Sophomore Jacy Smith paired with redshirt sophomore Jordyn King to win at No. 2 6-2. Number three doubles saw Carli Deehr and Lauren McCall win 6-2.
In the doubles against Tusculum, Western Carolina dropped one doubles match-ups against the Pioneers. Tusculum got a win at No. 1 doubles defeating Strickland and Elliott.
In singles play against UNC Asheville, Strickland also dropped her match at No. 1 singles in a tight match falling 7-6 (5), 6-4. Singles play also saw Smith (6-2, 6-2), King (6-3, 6-2), Deehr (4-6, 6-3, 10-7) and Elliott (6-4, 7-6) pick up wins in singles against Tusculum.
King made her first appearance on the courts in over a year as she sat out the 2018-19 season due to an injury.
Western Carolina will conclude action in the WCU Invite Sunday.
