CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis concluded day one of the WCU Invite Saturday with three wins at doubles and three in singles at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
Redshirt sophomore Jordyn King and sophomore Jacy Smith continued to roll as a duo in doubles, and also in singles play. King and Smith paired up at No. 2 doubles to win 6-4 against Longwood's Marija Venta and Jamie Breuning and shutout North Carolina A&T's Ameer Robertson and Marlene Estenssoro 6-0. The due is now 5-0 at No. 2 doubles this fall.
In singles play, Smith and King also won their singles matches against Brenau College. At No. 2 singles, Smith defeated Juana Zambrano in a battle 7-6, 7-6 (3) to improve to 4-0 in her fall campaign. King matched Smith with a 4-0 start at No. 3 singles defeating Evelin Gouveia 6-2, 6-2.
Rookie Emily Elliott earned the Catamounts' third win in a single against Brenau defeating Bianca Anderson 6-2, 6-2. Senior Jordan Strickland and Elliott earned a win at No. 1 singles defeating North Carolina A&T's Renata Ruiz and Nukaga Hamilton 6-2.
Western Carolina concludes its second WCU Invite Sunday with action beginning at 7:45 a.m. when the Catamounts will face off with Brenau in doubles and Longwood and North Carolina A&T will also open the day with doubles.
