CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis picked up its second straight win at home with a 5-2 victory over visiting South Carolina State Monday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
TURNING POINT:
Western Carolina won the doubles point, winning two of three, and went on to take four of the six singles matches for the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- With the score sitting at 2-1 after South Carolina State took a win at No. 6 singles, junior Jordan Strickland (7-6, 5-3) and senior Savannah Taranto (6-3, 6-4) and No. 1 and No. 4 singles for the key third and fourth wins of the match.
- Lauren McCall had the only three-set match dropping the first set 6-3 before battling back to win the ensuing sets 6-0, 6-1.
NOTES:
- Rookie Jacy Smith closed out the match picking up a win at No. 2 singles. She improves to 6-3 on the season holding down the most wins by a Catamount this season.
- Strickland now has 29 career wins and sits in third place for most wins in the WCU record books. She needs three wins to move into second place.
